The Southern Highlands Academically Gifted Class (AG Class) is a specialist class available for children in Years 5 and 6 who attend a local public school in the Southern Highlands. The AG Class offers an opportunity for children with a high potential for learning to work with their intellectual peers, remain in their home schools and communities and expand their learning and social skills through a rich program developed to encourage challenge, teamwork and feedback.

The AG Class is one of the most rewarding experiences a family can have in education. Children learn that they are capable of achieving whatever they set their minds to, and develop skills to help them for the rest of their lives. Parents are able to enjoy watching their children become confident learners which filters into all aspects of their lives.

 

Class structure

The structure of the class is that it runs for 29 school days - one for each child that is in the class. There is an initial intensive of 3 days and then the class meets every Tuesday on school days for 26 weeks. There are 30 places available and children must apply to be considered.

Entry to the class

Is by application and is conditional upon concurrent enrolment at your local public school in the year that students attend the AG class. Successful applicants are selected based off their application and test results. There is no quota of boys/girls or Year 5/Year 6 that is adhered to so each year is a new mix of these ratios based from the successful applicants each year. Dates

The class begins in Week 5 of Term 1 for an intensive 3 day program, then every Tuesday until Week 8 of Term 3. Dates are confirmed with parents once the class is formed.

Location and transport

The class currently resides at Moss Vale Public School. Travel to and from the class is the responsibility of parents.

​

Uniform

Students are expected to wear their home school uniforms when attending the AG class, including when on excursions. Hats are also required to be worn in accordance with our sunsmart policy.
