What

commitment is

needed from me?

Many children have never experienced a class like the AG Class. Parent support is an essential element to helping the children adjust to this new learning style. One of the biggest key factors in your child successfully completing this program, is the support that they receive at home. Parents can support their children in many ways.

Parent commitment

Being a parent of a child in the AG Class is a large and serious commitment. Due to the style of learning where children are expected to complete the majority of work in their own time at home, parents are a valuable asset and major factor in determining a child's success in the AG Class. Supported children develop skills in resilience, perseverance and organisation.

Children that are not supported by parents and family, often struggle and sometimes fail to complete the program, which instills habits that are not conducive to achieving success later in life.

Each week after class an email is sent home updating parents and children on what was learnt that day, homework and upcoming events in the AG Class. Parents need to stay checked in - read the weekly emails and help your child plan and organise their workload for each week.

Please check in with your child and have a conversation with them about what they are working on for that week. Hold them accountable and check-in that they are completing their tasks and not falling behind. The minute a parent checks out - the child also checks out and they rarely reach close to their potential.

Know what is going on so that you can successfully support your child and check in with them regularly as they take on new challenges each week.

Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulties with your child settling in the AG Class, please inform the teacher. As another major factor in the support network for your child, the AG Class teacher can often offer advice and support from the issue, as well as access to further professionals if needed.

Another factor which affects children's settling in period is that of timing. Some high potential students are not yet ready to learn the lessons the AG Class has to offer. A discussion with the AG Class teacher can help you to determine if your child is not ready for the class and possible options to move forward.
