The mark of Athena is about the continued journey to stop Gaia from destroying the world. At the beginning of this book Greek demigods sail on the Argo 2 to Rome so that the Greek and Roman forces can combine powers. However while they are there Leo (a Greek demigod) is controlled by a eidolon and attacks Rome. At which point the Greeks have to flee taking only 3 romans with them. As they sail towards their goal, Greece they face many challenges, including rescuing the Athena Parthenos from the grasp of Arachne the spider. Aboard the Argo 2 is Percy son of Poseidon, Annabeth Percy’s girlfriend and daughter of Athena, Hazel daughter of Pluto, Frank son of Mars, Jason son of Jupiter, Piper daughter of Aphrodite and Leo son of Hephaestus and creator of the Argo 2. They also have a adult chaperone Coach Hedge who is a warcrazed satyr.
This book is amazing. It is book 3 in the hero’s of Olympus and is by far my favourite in this series. This book has many complicated story lines and is hard to keep track of if you only read occasionally as it does have many leads and plot lines. I wouldn’t change anything about this book. My favourite character is probably Annabeth the unofficial leader of the quest and daughter of my favourite goddess.
I would recommend this book for ages 9 and up. I would fit this in the adventure, mythology and romance category. This book hasn’t been made into a movie yet although a couple of the earlier books have been. I would rate this book ten out of ten.
