The War That Saved My Life

The War That Saved my Life is about a girl named Ada who lives in London during the start of World War 2. Her mother is extremely mean and won’t let her leave to the country side to escape the danger of the war. So Ada creates a plan to escape her dreadful mother and to move to the countryside along with her little brother Jamie. Her plan works and she ends up living with a very lady named Susan. At first Susan says she doesn’t want to look after any children, but soon grows to love Ada and Jamie. But will Ada stay in the country or will her mother come to take her back? Read the book to find out.

The War That Saved my Life is a very thrilling and unexpected book. Ada is always finding out new things because she has never been to school before. The only thing the author could fix up is that the book is very repetitive and it sometimes gets a little annoying.

Kimberly Brubaker Bradley was born in Indiana, United States on the 24th of June 1967. She had always loved reading from a young age. Kimberly went to Smith College in Massachusetts and received a degree in chemistry. But later on her friend persuaded her to take an introduction to Children’s Literature Course and immediately she loved it.

I really loved this book because it was always so interesting to picture yourself in Ada’s position. Every page is just as nerve-wracking as the next. My favourite part is when Ada learns to ride Butter the horse.

I would recommend this book to 10-14 year olds. The War That Saved my Life belongs in the Adventure category. The author has put quite simple words in this book for she has written it as though Ada has written it and Ada has never been to school.
