The Bombing of Darwin

Tom Taylor is just an ordinary 14-year-old boy. But when his life is turned upside down by the Second World War, can his family cope with the pressure? Moving to Darwin not only will change Tom’s life forever but he will never think about Darwin the same way again. Tom will always remember the morning of 19 February 1942 when the world changed from peace to war.

The Bombing of Darwin is an interesting story of the past. It is written in a diary form. It tells a lot about the bombing of Pearl Harbor and Darwin in 1941-1942. I rate this book an 8.5 out of 10. I love this book because it’s about something that really happened. The only thing I would change about this book would be to always keep the story interesting because there were parts that were a bit boring.

This book is a fictional novel based on real events. If it was completely fictional it would fit into the genre of adventure. It is for both boys and girls, and I would recommend it to ages 11 and up because it has some sad and gruesome parts in it, but a mature 10-year-old might enjoy it. Children who have an interest in Australian or world war history will most probably not be able to put it down.

The author, Alan Tucker, recently moved to the city after more than 30 years of country living. He teaches Year 12 media studies by distance education. He juggles each week between teaching four days and writing for three.
