The Maze Runner is the first book in a trilogy. It is about a boy named Thomas who wakes up in a small pitch black box that is slowly sputtering up the shaft. When he arrives he is greeted by the gladers, the people who have lived in the glade. The glade is the large grassy area filled with trees and is dotted with buildings that the gladers live in. The glade is surrounded by a huge maze that closes at night, and at night monsters are released that will kill you if you do not get back to the glade by nightfall. Thomas and his friends, after around a week, devise a plan to escape, the maze.
The Maze Runner is a great book and some of its strong points are interesting and mysterious characters, a good plot, keeps you guessing and has good character developement. Some of the bad things about the maze runner are the ending was unsatisfying and it had reoccurring plot twists. I would change the ending of the book, as it is not fulfilling compared to the rest of the book.
I thought the maze runner was an exhilarating and thrilling book that kept you guessing, had great and unique characters and is a great read for ages nine to fourteen. I would rate it 8 and a half out of ten.
