Truly Tan – By Jen Storer

Truly Tan

This awesome book is based on a ten-year-old girl named Tan’s diary. Tan used to live in the city but when her family move to the country she is devastated. Tan has three sisters, Emerald, Amber and Rose, (all of the children are named after colours, and Tan calls her sisters the three lollipops). Tan sometimes likes to pretend she is a spy. She is adventurous and is always looking for a bit of trouble. She has four pets; a dog called Awesome, a turtle named Queen Victoria, a cat named E and Amber owns a Chihuahua called Doodad.

When her family arrives at their new house they find a dead fox hanging over a fence post out the front. Tan starts school and makes some new friends and foes, and starts a spy club. She makes a new friend called Gloria, who joins the spy club. When she discovers a haunted cubby she, with the help of her friends, must solve the mystery. Will they find out who haunts the place? Read this book to find out!

I really liked the names of the pets and the fact that Tan is a spy. I do not dislike anything about this book and I would not change anything. If I had to put this book in a category I would put it in mystery. Truly Tan is the first in a series of so far four but the author is still writing more. I would recommend this book mainly to girls aged 8-12 who love mystery. I rate this book 9/10!
