The Witches is my favourite book by the world’s number one story-teller: Roald Dahl. It is about witches; horrible creatures disguised as lovely ladies. They are bald, have claws, large nostrils, no toes, blue spit and ever changing pupils, all of which they try to cover up. Witches love ending children’s lives; in fact, they spend every day thinking of new ways to murder them. One boy and his grandmother know a lot about witches and make it their job to try and stop the witches before they destroy all of the children on Earth.
One day while staying at ‘The Hotel Magnificent, the boy tries to train his pet mice to walk on a tight rope when he accidently overhears a meeting of witches. He hears their plans to turn all of the children of England into mice and watches as a fat boy named Bruno gets turned into one. Unfortunately, the mouse training boy is discovered by the witches and is turned into a mouse.
Discover how he and his Grandmother try to stop these witches from destroying every child in England.
Roald Dahl has been clever twisting his story in an ingenious plot.
I would recommend this book for ages 6 to 16.
