Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson

The Dragon Keeper by Carole Wilkinson is the first book in a trilogy. It tells the story of a slave girl, her pet rat and a dragon. They begin a long journey through China in which they learn as much about the country as they do about themselves. The Dragon Keeper is a fantasy book that weaves through a complex plot. It is very thick, but please don't be turned off by the heaviness of the book. It is well worth a read. The Dragon Keeper keeps the reader engaged and thirsty for more of the story. Wilkinson keeps her sentences full of adventure and her writing style is easy to read. Wilkinson has been very clever in her development of the characters and their relationship builds into something really special by the time you finish the book. Warning: This book will leave you rushing to the bookstore or library to find the rest of the trilogy to find out what journey the characters will find in the next instalment. I highly recommend this book to any students in Year 5 and/or 6 that love to read. The story will remain with you forever. ~ Mrs Griffith
